He's not there yet and he's already gone. The Lexus LFA becomes not only assembled by hand as far as
possible, but is also handpicked. The 14 copies for Germany are already out of stock - for an incredible
375,000 euros each.
The final version d es Supersportlers will actually only go into production in September. After a lot of
development time, including three 24-hour races on the Nürburgring as an additional test program.
Lexus LFA with 560 hp
Good things take time. A piece of wisdom that also applies to the pre-start. After the easy entry into the good seats of the Lexus LFA, we recommend lingering in order to let the ergonomically perfect, but somewhat playful interior work on you. There is a lot to discover and explore in the test car in order to be optimally prepared for the journey with 560 hp. The radio, navigation and air conditioning controls, for example, which are not easy to operate like a dream. The central display with its extensive setting options. Or the change between reverse and forward gear, which can only be done with the intermediate stop in neutral. Rapid manoeuvring is therefore not possible - strength lies in calm. At least in this discipline.
The ten-cylinder never lacks power
Pressing the start button ends the silence, although the ten-cylinder embedded behind the front axle is nowhere near as much screams nastily like a loud Italo-V10. In the Lexus LFA, the five-litre displacement sounds a subtle melody. The V10, developed in cooperation with Yamaha, only strikes a bit more than 3,000 revolutions in the test, thus balancing itself on the edge of an annoying roar in the long run. However, there is plenty of space to bypass the acoustically unpleasant area. Especially since the 72-degree V10 never lacks performance. It hangs lasciviously on the gas at any speed, burning sharp and poisonous when the tachometer needle, which can optionally be coloured red, wipes past the six. Now the three tailpipes fire shrill sounds. Only after 8,700 tours does the central display ask you to switch over with green flashing. 300 revs further makes it serious with red flashing, calls for the next gear from the gearbox interlocked with the rear axle, automatically or manually by pulling the paddle shifters commanded.
Whereby the automatic mode acts lethargic, it is difficult to decide when turning and also has the peculiarity of taking two steps at once. During normal driving, the switching sequence is two, four, six. When approaching the traffic light, therefore, in the opposite direction, accompanied by a mechanical clacking from the shallows between the transaxle, torque tube and mid-engine.
Lexus LFA is also suitable for good gliding
Die manual modes wet, norm or sport are more recommended. In wet, the electrohydraulic unit switches with great care; in Norm, the heads of the crew nod. Sport shoots down the aisles with vehemence, but not with unreasonably rude rudeness, but with the sporty toughness that is appropriate in this environment. The technically complex composition with the monocoque woven from carbon fibres, double wishbones and carbon-ceramic brakes feels in its element when neither stubborn straight-line stability nor sensitive suspension comfort is required. Of course, the Lexus LFA can glide well. On the standard lap, for example, where the high-speed engine is content with 11.8 litres per 100 kilometres. Start /stop is defined here in such a way that five of the ten cylinders allow themselves a break when idling. One last breather before maximum performance is required on the test field.
Despite the launch function, the brute force partially dissipates in the special Bridgestone rubbers. This leaves 4.1 instead of the promised 3.7 seconds for the sprint to 100 km /h. On the other hand, the brake system, which can be easily adjusted, exceeds expectations in the test, decelerating in cold and warm conditions with brute force.
Agility ranks higher than with Ferrari or Lamborghini
The brightest highlights are set by the at least 1,615 kilograms heavy rear-wheel drive car, however, in terms of driving dynamics. The driving behaviour is as neutral as the weight distribution is equal. The Lexus LFA is strong in the narrow 18-metre slalom as well as in the fast ISO frond test. He can be circled directly on course, convincingly maintaining neutrality. The electronic stability system controls excellently, almost imperceptibly and without panic attacks stifling the driving pleasure. With the assistance systems switched off, the rear naturally pushes more. Nevertheless, the Lexus convinced in the test with an impressive agility, ranked on a higher level than Ferrari 599 GTB or Lamborghini Murciélago SV. Already by the fact that it arrows more than three km /h faster through ISO-Wedelgasse - true to its kind: straight there, and already gone.
